looking into indents

i started looking into indents to find out what styles and animations they use. Firstly i came across these indents for BBC three. i love the moving shapes and the way the image moves to a sound or beat. the first one with the origami reminded me of seagulls and i felt this would be a good start for my indents. i want to create something quite clean, fresh and out of my comfort zone.  The colours are very electro and use a limited colour palette 3 at the most. these are some of my favourite indents that i have seen.

These cute litre creatures are from MTV's indents. They look like worms that pop up and down and twirl around to create a trendy fresh new take on previously edited filmed indents. I like the way they have mashed bright colour with black and white to make certain elements stand out. The bright pop colours attract a younger audience and MTV is aimed at music and these worms move to a beat of music. The target audience for MTV is 16-30 so there indents will be more colourful, trendy and young compared to BBC 2 as seen below.

These are idents form the BBC through the years and it shows how idents have come along and what sort of element have been used to create these icon pieces of television. Some of the idents are very simple with just small elements but i think this works and is really effective, it keeps the viewer watching as they aren't sure what is going to happen next. you can also see how well indents have come along since the first were broadcast. one thing i have noticed is that not many of them uses loads of colour they keep it simple with a few main colours/ pop colours.

these are some idents from ITV and a lot of them are the most recent. They had eased more film and photography and have animated it that way instead of creating an animation on screen. Their idents have to relate to an older audience ( a more grown up audience) and their idents reflect this. The itv logo is a large size on the screen so you know way channel you are watching, also they match the ident colours to the colours on the logo, if you watch ITV you will notice most of the idents have a main colur of yellow to match the logo.

these are some idents from MTV again. you can see the difference  in style when you look at the animation they use compared to ITV or BBC. you can see how the target audience affects the whole design you are using, especially colours and animation styles. digital natives expect to see animation like this so when they see the idents on ITV and BBC they aren't impressed. Looking through different idents i have realised that i need to look further into the target audience for latest  TV which will help me to design for that person.

These nickelodeon idents are some of my favourite as the mix digital and photography and they work really well. I particularly like the carrots and rabbit one. the animation is really simple but it is also really clever. the carrots moving look like stop motion and the character is a different art style, being unite boxy like shapes placed together. i want to create something using this style, although i need to be in contact with Val and Diana to see if they agree with this design.

this video shows the BBC idents form the beginning to now. its good to be able to look back and see what the design was at the time and how i could make use the designs from the past re-invent them and use them now. design always comes back into fashion and its about finding the design that is going to be popular and work well for the audience
